Planning permission has been granted for a new hotel on a vacant former retail site in York.
CBRE UK Property PAIF and Premier Inn Hotels submitted the application last year for a development on the site of the former Carpetright on Layerthorpe Road. The application has been supported by planning consultancy CBRE and architects’ practice The Harris Partnership.
The new building will feature 188 bedrooms, as well as a bar and restaurant on the ground floor and a 43-space car park.
It has been estimated that the development could create 55 jobs, as well as providing investment into York’s tourism industry and regenerating a brownfield site.
