The Harris Partnership have collaborated with Willmott Dixon on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester and Stockport Council to deliver a cutting-edge Transport Interchange in Stockport.
On Sunday, March 17th 2024, the new facility opened its doors to the public, coinciding with the launch of an updated bus schedule. This marks the initial phase of the grand unveiling, which includes the opening of the Viaduct Park, a sprawling rooftop town centre park today.
This development serves as a pivotal component of Stockport’s ambitious £1 billion town centre rejuvenation project. It serves as a modern gateway to both the town centre and the broader Greater Manchester and North West regions, facilitating seamless connectivity for commuters utilising the West Coast Mainline and local transport services, while also becoming a premier destination in its own right.
Viaduct Park, situated on top of the interchange, features new pedestrian and cycle pathways, ensuring improved accesibility from the railway station, across the new Viaduct Park, to the Wellington Road bridge. Enhancing connectivity further, next month will witness the official unveiling of a spiral cycle link, integrating the park with the Mersey Frontage, the Trans Pennine Trail, and the wider town centre beyond.
