We are thrilled to have received planning permission for a new multi-million-pound film studio at Winnersh Triangle Business Park in Berkshire.
Our Wakefield office worked on the application for the new 49,000 sqft space on behalf of our client Frasers Property and its tenant production company Stage Fifty. It’s the next phase in the development of Winnersh Film Studios which Stage Fifty launched in 2023 and retrospective planning approval last year.
The green light has now been given by Wokingham Council to demolish two warehouses and replace them with a new flexible two studio sound stage. Councillors welcomed the application as the next phase in the area’s bid to build a new “creative quarter”.
The plans describe the new building as having a “strong visual presence” with Design Director Oliver Clark noting: “A sound stage requires certain key components the main drivers being a clear, column free and sound proof space – a black box. Our plans for this development at Winnersh Film Studios is to create a building that both delivers on that requirement but also bridges the gap in architectural styles which already exist on the business park.”
Speaking on behalf of the development, Cllr Rachelle Shepherd-DuBey said: “We need employment in the borough. It looks like Wokingham’s becoming the Hollywood of England at this point.”
Oliver added: “We’re thrilled to have received planning approval to move this exciting project forward and welcome Wokingam Council’s ambition to create a new employment space to support the growth of the UK’s dynamic production sector which currently contributes c. £12.6bn to the UK economy.”
