Work starts at Wood Street Collection Wakefield / September, 2024

It’s a privilege to work in your home city and we’re proud to be supporting the Rushbond Group with designs for its Wood Street Collective development within Wakefield.

This key City Centre regeneration project looks to transform the city’s grade-II listed 200-year-old, Crown Court, former Wood Street Police Station and car parks into new homes as well as community and leisure space.

Granted planning permission in 2023, work on the first phase of the development has now started.

Alongside creating new homes and breathing new life into vacant buildings, this new district will also feature green landscaping and streetscaping to deliver new public spaces and improve connectivity between other city centre amenities.

Once complete the development will include 29no. new two and three-bedroom townhouses and 33no. one-, two- and three-bedroom heritage apartments. Our plans also include the creation of a four storey residential property in the historic Wood House.

James Dinsley, from Rushbond, said: “We’re excited to start on site with The Wood Street Collection, this is an exciting project which will transform this area of Wakefield into a thriving new district featuring both heritage and contemporary new build elements that can have a positive impact on the city.

“The designs pay homage to the past but also set a standard for regeneration projects within Wakefield, breathing new life into the former Crown Court and Police Station to create not just much needed new homes but also new community and leisure facilities for everyone to enjoy.”

Lee Brewer, Group Director at The Harris Partnership, added: “It’s always special to work within your home city. Wakefield has played such an important role in The Harris Partnership’s growth over the last 40 years, we’re excited to be playing a part in shaping its future, with the delivery  of the Civic Quarter enhancements alongside the Rushbond Group.

“The sympathetic design works seek to breathe new life into the 200-year-old Crown Court, the former police station and Wood Street House whilst also delivering completely new homes in the area. The overall ambition was always to deliver more than new buildings, but also to create new public spaces which improve connectivity between city centre amenities through carefully designed green landscaping and streetscaping.”
