We are pleased to have designed the plans for a new Aldi in Thames Ditton, Surrey.
Granted planning permission by Elmbridge Borough Council, the new 9,000 sqft single storey foodstore, a part of which sits within a conservation area, includes associated parking, servicing and landscaping and will be constructed following demolition of existing buildings at the site.
This proposal reflects our commitment to adaptive, context-sensitive design and our ongoing collaboration with one of the UK’s leading supermarkets.
Partners on the scheme include Smeeden Foreman (landscape architect), Avison Young (planning consultant), Cogent Heritage (heritage), Connect Consultants (highways consultant) and Sharps Redmore (noise).
Extensive engagement with the local community took place ahead of the plans being approved, with our designs using a complimentary brick material palette to help the store blend into its surroundings and a green wall incorporated on the building’s exterior to reduce visual impact on neighbouring properties.
Soft landscaping is a key component of the proposed development. Mature trees will be reintroduced towards the front of the site, alongside ornamental shrubs and bushes throughout.
Sustainable transport benefits include four electric vehicle charging stations alongside ten customer and eight staff cycle spaces. This like many Aldi stores will include a mix of cutting-edge heat recovery systems, which capture otherwise wasted machinery heat, alongside low carbon heating solutions like air source heat pumps. Sustainable energy is also proposed to be generated on the site via the inclusion of 112 PV panels.
