The Harris Partnership is celebrating the opening this week of discount supermarket ALDI’s first checkout-free ‘just walk out’ store in Greenwich, London.
The THP designed store enables customers who download the ALDI Shop&Go app to select items from the shelves and simply walk out once they have completed their shop. A network of cameras integrated with the interior fit-out registers products as they are picked up and charges customers directly on exit, creating a fluid and seamless shopping experience.
This exciting use of the very latest in retail technology aims to further streamline the successful ALDI concept. The store had been under a rigorous testing regime with employees for the past few months before launching their public trial on Tuesday.
Iain Church, Director at THP says “We are proud to have worked with ALDI on the first Shop&Go store in Greenwich and look forward to seeing how these new technologies can drive and shape the modern-day shopping model. THP have an unrivalled range of innovative retail, residential and educational projects throughout the country, and this positive experience only adds to our diverse portfolio.”
