The Harris Partnership has been appointed by Muse Developments to develop a new masterplan for South Shields Town Centre.
THP worked with Muse in 2013 to design a winning masterplan bid as part of a competition process commissioned by South Tyneside Council as part of their regeneration strategy for the Town Centre. The design proposal includes a new Community Hub, Transport Interchange, Foodstore, Waterfront Hotel and Restaurants, Civic and Market Squares, located around a new retail and leisure core made possible by extensive remodelling of the existing infrastructure and public realm.
Phase I will see the submission of a detailed application in April for a new Market and Civic Square alongside a new Community Hub building. The submission of an application for the new Transport Interchange later in the year will enable the extensive re-design of retail and leisure in the heart of South Shields.
