North Durham Retail Park, Pity Me / March, 2023

The site in Pity Me, which features a combined floorspace of 53,400 sq.ft. across four units, was designed by The Harris Partnership and delivered by GMI Construction for Premcor Estates and Wyngrove Limited.

Replacing a former warehousing / vehicle servicing & mot site at the location, the development is adjacent to Durham’s largest out-of-town retail park, the Arnison Centre.

Development has been ongoing since early 2019 after initial planning permission was granted in August 2020. The units have already been let and fitted out to accommodate Home Bargains, Iceland, Aldi and a Starbucks drive-thru.

The site includes parking but has been designed to promote sustainable transport by improving access for public transport, cyclists and pedestrians.

Simon Lawson, associate at The Harris Partnership, said: “We are delighted that the Durham Retail Park has reached completion. Our designs focused on transforming the former mixed-use site into a modern out of town retail offering which features modern and efficient buildings that appeal to occupiers and support the creation of new jobs and amenities for local people.”
