Whilst the signs of recovery in the South appeared early last year, it took until the Summer to see an increase of workload in Manchester and it was the Autumn when it crossed to Leeds and the North. Let’s all keep our heads, stay cautious, sensible realistic in all our aspirations, and work together in sustaining this delicate recovery.
The uplift in workload has seen the pra
ctice re-investing; we have been recruiting and putting into place new structures and IT systems to forge the foundations for a strong and sustained future. Christmas saw a number of promotions; Peter Hoole and Simon Waterhouse have been made Associates in the Manchester office whilst Carl Braim has become an Associate Director with James Richmond moving up to Group Director in Wakefield. I hope you will congratulate them on their success, which is due reward for the hard work they have put into the practice over the years.
We have site starts in Hull, Rotherham, Gillingham, Aintree, Guiesley, Christchurch, Harlow, Selly Oak and York, not just retail but a good mixture from offices to industrial schemes. In addition, LXB has commenced on site in Stafford, with the demolition of the towns multi-storey and surface car parks for the retail-led regeneration of the riverside to be anchored by Debenhams and M&S amongst others.
To supplement this there is no stopping Aldi’s phenomenal growth; last year we delivered 35 new build and store extensions in the UK and with a full order book for 2014 we will match, if not beat it this year!
Finally, in May the Practice will celebrate 30 years of trading since John Miller Harris established the company in 1984. We are planning a couple of celebration functions that will be carried out in the usual Harris style! Dates and locations both North and South will be announced shortly.
