Plans for the £25m regeneration of a prominent, derelict site opposite Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield have been submitted by developers, Jaguar Estates and Bridges Fund Management.
The 10-acre plot on Penistone Road North has been used in recent years as a car park on Sheffield Wednesday match days, with plans for the site designed by The Harris Partnership now proposing three retail units, eight storage and distribution units, two drive-through restaurants and one vehicle maintenance and repair facility, with access roads.
The scheme will create up to 250 local jobs and deliver major improvements to an area of Sheffield that has remained neglected over the years yet occupies one of the busiest gateways into the city and national chains have already expressed an interest in the development with potential occupiers including a discount food store, coffee shop and builders’ merchants. Works are scheduled to commence before the end of the year subject to planning consent.
