The Harris Partnership have been working with client Estate & Agency Holdings on the proposed £15 million redevelopment of part of an existing retail park located on the edge of Barking Town centre, between the Abbey Ruins and the River Roding.
The scheme includes the demolition of existing A1 units and the delivery of a new build 100,000sqft Sainsbury’s retail store which will have a 60,000sqft sales floor set above 400 undercroft parking spaces. Approval could create up to 450 new jobs in the area.
A Breeam ‘Very Good’ rating is being targeted, one of the ecological initiatives includes remodelling the river flood defences into a naturalised green embankment.
A planning decision is expected March 2014.
