An ambitious retail and residential scheme in Lytham St Annes is being brought forward by joint venture partnership Aldi and Stonewell Properties/Hollinwood Homes (part of The Marcus Worthington Group), with The Harris Partnership providing the designs.
The five storey scheme, located on a former derelict site on Clifton Drive North is called “St Georges Court” and comprises a 14,155 sq. ft Aldi foodstore with 70 basement car parking spaces and 34 first floor contemporary apartments. Classical in design, plans have had to complement the neighbouring listed residential properties and adjacent church, with materials consisting of a palette mix of locally sourced stonework and complimentary brickwork with proportions akin to the local vernacular architecture.
Construction work has begun, with anticipated handover to Aldi scheduled for the last quarter of 2013.
Lee Brewer, Associate Director comments: “Keeping the overall look true to Aldi’s strong and instantly recognisable identity while paying homage to the local architecture has kept us busy! We enjoy a challenge, and the result will be a very tasteful and attractive scheme that will give a major boost to a once derelict site, and significantly improve the residential and retail offering in St Annes.”
