Aldi Stores Roundup / December, 2024

We have had a busy end to 2024 with the completion of various Aldi stores throughout the UK.

One of our newly completed stores is positioned at the gateway to Horsham town centre and is situated between a historic mill building and a modern contemporary retail development.

The new 1,900 sqm store features brick panels in contrasting English bond as well as large format glazing around the customer entrance. The building also uses contrasting timber effect rock panel planks as well as careful landscaping, which were designed to not only create a welcoming environment for customers but to enhance the local public realm and support improved biodiversity.

Working closely with Aldi and Horsham District Council throughout the planning process, the store included the introduction of water neutrality legislation which ensures the development does not place extra strain on already scarce water resources. This requirement saw the design evolve to include rainwater harvesting and propel air toilets. As a result of this and other decisions the store has achieved a BREEAM Rating of ‘Very Good’.

Other new stores completed in the final quarter of 2024 include Mirfield, Cambourne, Sheppey, Westwood Cross, Muswell Hill, Caterham, Beckton Triangle Retail Park, Viking Way Congleton, Pwllheli and Meanwood in Leeds which also included new units for Starbucks and Card Factory.

Russell O’Donoghue, Group Director, said: “Our latest developments once again demonstrate how we can utilise bespoke design elements to create unique, yet familiar Aldi stores. The introduction of water neutrality legislation at Horsham did present some challenges but by working collaboratively we were able to design solutions which have not only met the requirements but have resulted in an exemplary store.”
