Following receipt of its detailed planning permission in late 2007, the long awaited £5.5m development at a key gateway in St Annes finally opens its doors to the general public.
The new flagship store was built as part of the St George’s Court new homes development by Hollinwood Homes, part of the Marcus Worthington Group of Preston, and includes for a 14,100sqft foodstore for Aldi Stores Limited, together with 34no. contemporary styled one- and two-bedroom apartments located over 3 storeys above a shared podium plaza. All apartments have primary focus on views of the streetscape and glimpse views of the coastline with the first units being scheduled for handover to residents early in 2014.
Lee Brewer, Associate Director at the Harris Partnership commented ‘The foodstore element received an overwhelming response from the public on opening day and works are now almost complete for the residential element in the traditional seaside town’. ‘Architecturally the scheme was always a challenging proposal to meet both the expectations of Fylde LPA as well as integrate the scheme into the decorative curtilage of the neighbouring residential terrace along St George’s Road’. The scheme also incorporates a single storey link ‘pavilion’ providing vertical circulation between customer parking below the store and Clifton Drive North.
